Supernova SN 2023ixf in the Messier 101 spiral galaxy: a image - 08 Oct. 2023. - The Virtual Telescope Project 2.0

Supernova SN 2023ixf in Messier 101, imaged on 8 Oct. 2023 by Gianluca Masi via the Virtual Telescope Project, Italy. The Virtual Telescope Project 2.0 has imaged supernova SN 2023ixf, still shining in Messier 101, while it is slowly fading five months after its explosion. The image was taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST8-XME robotic unit and is indicated by an arrow on the image. We imaged again supernova SN 2023ixf, still shining in Messier 101, while it is slowly fading five months after its explosion.

The image above comes from the average of three, 120-second, unguided exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova is indicated by an arrow on the image. .

We estimated SN 2023ixf as bright as mag. 13.7 (R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue), so it is slowly fading.
