(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 23 - Eni said Monday that it has signed a long-term contract for the development of the North Field East (NFE) project in Qatar for the delivery of up to 1.5 billion cubic meters per annum (bcma) of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The LNG will be delivered at the FSRU Italia receiving terminal, currently located at Piombino, Italy, with deliveries expected to start from 2026 and last 27 years, the Italian energy giant said.
Eni said the contract would help boost "Italy's security of supply through the diversification of its supply sources".
Italy has been seeking alternative sources of energy to Russian gas delivered via pipelines after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
Scientists say that burning fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas is one of the driving forces of the global heating, which is having increasing devastating effects on our world.
